Reflection

Consider previous tech earthquakes - the Wright brothers took mankind into the skies in 1903. By 1969 mankind was on the moon. In just 66 years (well within a typical lifespan), our horizons had expanded from propelling across continents to propelling towards outer space. At the current pace of AI advancement, what will happen to our horizons in the next 66 months? What happens in a world where beautiful music, awe inspiring art, perspective shifting prose and good ol' fashioned life advice can be generated with a few clever prompts and the click of a button?

The Burgers Are Better
April 22, 2021
The environment that encouraged motorway building, out-of-town shopping, suburbia, commuting, office managers, living-for-the-weekend, career politicians, central business districts, etc. etc. etc. That came about because our motivations aligned with these outcomes. We Wanted This.
Consulting At Scale
April 14, 2021
11 years later, the landscape is utterly different. I can create the output of a 3-5 person team with a laptop and a Wi-Fi connection. Everything has moved to a SaaS business model. Our Money is Distorting
March 23, 2021
Our money is distorted, and thus our environment is distorted. The construction industry is highly motivated by margins, and I totally get that, especially in this era of currency debasement. But it drives the high time preference I frequently see in design decisions. It is a tragedy, and I do firmly believe that Bitcoin can realign our motivations to create beautiful, healthy spaces.
Release Your Attention
March 22, 2021
You want the spaces you inhabit to recharge you. Not to provide a low hum of anxiety. By releasing your attention from minor items, you can refocus on those activities that you really enjoy. For me, that is time with my gang, my websites, my writing and my guitars.

Working From Anywhere
March 2, 2021
In our paperless age, and with most knowledge roles based from a screen, it is so god damn easy to work from anywhere. And if it is so god damn easy, then why do we continue to inhabit these stuffy depressing offices? What possible reason is there to inhabit these spaces for 8 hours of your day?
